All Independent Pizza Operators: 5. Long Island Pizza Contest Gets Hi-Jacked (Please note: All links on this page will open in a new window.) 1. What's New: How I Spent My Summer Vacation
We returned from the mainland a couple of weeks ago. We went to visit friends and family in Southeastern Connecticut. We always have a good time . Of course we ate a lot of pizza. We also, had tons of seafood including lobsters and clams. Our family was raised on seafood, particularly fresh lobster. We always enjoyed lobsters at family celebrations. You can get New England lobsters just about anywhere. (Even here in Hawaii, you can buy fresh New England Lobster, not that I ever do, mind you...) Fried clams are a little different. You can't find fried clams with the bellies, anywhere, except New England. We ate a lot of fried clams. For me, the highlight of the trip was going on a pizza tour. I was fortunate to be able to visit the Holy Trinity of Pizza: Pepe's, Sally's and Modern. Each is an established pizza operation. Each has a coal fired oven. Each has a dedicated staff. Each pizzeria made pizza that was memorable and incredible. Each pizzeria made their own pizza unique, original, and delicious..
I reviewed the Holy Trinity of Pizza: Pepe's,
Sally's and
Modern, in my blog.
The most recent blog post is all about the New
England delicacy

2. What's New, Too: The Forum Quite honestly, I am totally shocked at the amount of buzz generated by the Pizza and Pasta Forum. At this point, the posts have started to show up in the major search engines, such as Yahoo, and Google. Already, over 160 members have signed up. (It's free, of course). There are over 350 posts. The amount of unique content is impressive. In less than 60 days the Pizza and Pasta Forum, has generated lots of useful content found no-where else. This is a low key, fun Forum. Ask a question or share your knowledge. You can just visit, if you like and not say anything. The rules are clear: be considerate and have respect for all. There are a couple of very cool things you can do with the Forum. The Forum has the ability to create polls. For example I created a poll to get opinions about Pepe's, Sally's and Modern. Here is the page: Forum Poll Another interesting feature is the ability to send a private message to anyone in the forum. Once you sign up for the Forum, you get your own private mailbox. My personal goal is to have over 1,000 members by the end of next month. Please visit, sign up and share your knowledge or questions. Please visit The Forum and sign up at this link: the Pizza and Pasta Forum.
Also if you decide you do
not want to sign up (or have problems signing up, email me at my private email
address and I will post for you. Here is my private email:
3 . Legends of Pizza, Volume 1, On-lineI recently got a phone call from Tom Boyles, editor of PMQ magazine. PMQ is a well respected professional pizza publication. Tom had called to discuss my Legends of Pizza. Project. (Legends of Pizza. Volume 1, is a series of interviews with noted pizzaiolos Peter Reinhart, Gary Bimonte and Chris Bianco.)
He explained PMQ had recently launched a new project called Pizza Radio. He wanted permission to make parts of the Legends of Pizza interviews available on Pizza Radio to the general public. I feel this is the right thing to do.
I gave him permission. If you have not
already, you can listen to a part of Legends
of Pizza.
Volume 1
on-line.
Here is the link:
http://www.pizzaradio.com/?cat=5 Please understand, the sound quality at Pizza Radio, is not nearly as good as the original recording of Legends of Pizza, Volume 1,. The on-line versions have been edited. The CD Legends of Pizza, Volume 1, is cleaner, longer and contains music. You can claim your own copy of Legends of Pizza, Volume 1, right here.
"Great Albert!
Absolutely Great!"
"...A
wonderful document of where pizza is today, where it’s going, and where it’s
been. I can honestly say I learned more in one hour than I have in a lifetime of
eating the stuff."
